Selfish Gene is a quiet little cafe on Craig Road, so named because supposedly Gene would never serve you food he wouldn’t eat himself. Seems Gene has pretty decent standards since the breakfast we had was simple and good — a salmon sandwich and a scrambled egg on toast. The latter wasn’t on the menu, but since I’m eggy like Sunday morning we asked if they could improvise and they gladly agreed. A beautiful, fluffy scramble arrived on an enormous slice of bread with a small side salad. Our flat white coffees were delivered with the utmost attention — and serious (but completely unnecessary) apologies for the ever-so-slight coffee drip down the side. Hey, no biggie, we’re not only eggy… we’re easy like Sunday morning. Thanks for breakfast, Gene. We’ll be back.
