Photo of the Day: the Silver Chariot
Preparations for Thaipusam are complete and the events of the day have started. The Silver Chariot, pictured, arrived at Layan Sithi Vinayagar temple this morning and has just departed for the Sri Thendayuthapani. Vows begin at Sri Srinivasa Perumal temple tonight at 8:00 p.m. and continue through the night. Spike and chariot kavadi bearers begin entering the temple at 2:00 a.m. and start walking anytime after 4:00 a.m. It’s a long night for everyone involved, continuing well into tomorrow, but it is a fascinating event at every turn. More photos (not for the faint of heart) to come soon! If you want to read more about the origin of Thaipusam, check out my post from last year.
I’ve been following your blog for awhile now! Nice pictures! I always love the bright colours of Thaipusam. 🙂 Even after seeing it year after year, it never ceases to amaze me…

Hey! Thank you so much for following along with me and my journeys!! I’m leaving in 30 minutes for tonight’s Thaipusam events. I agree — the colors are so bright and beautiful. I’ll be Instagraming from the festivities — you can see my images in real time if you want. Thanks again for reading my blog! 🙂

Found you! Following you! Great shots! That’s hilarious, we probably did see each other. I’m American, brown hair in a ponytail, was dressed in a pink dress with a black shawl and a gray backpack — one of the few expat women there. Easy to find me, ha ha! 🙂 Hope to meet you sometime!
