Daily Dose of Beauty: Adding a bit of light to the darkness as we get through the pandemic together.
This series features travel photos and stories from my archives, shared with you as we shelter in place.

April 21st, 2020

Solving yesterday’s sunset mystery, we’ve arrived in Oman on the Arabian Sea.

Oman’s beauty shines through in an austere and rugged landscape. Life here feels in constant touch with the elements – intense sun, rock, sand, sea and an occasional profusion of palm trees and vegetation in the narrow canyons called wadis. Simplicity rules except for the few adorned surfaces where traditional geometric design radiates in a kaleidoscope of color, and richly patterned fabrics cover walls and cushions. The aroma of frankincense wafts from doorways and the freshly pressed dishdashas of passersby ~ a scent of Oman made from the sap of Boswellia trees found near Salalah.

Oman cast its spell on me, tantalizing all five senses … from that irresistible frankincense to the remarkable chandelier of the grand mosque to daily tea and dates, red sand through my fingers and daily calls to prayer. Unfamiliar and unforgettable — the essence of travel.

Until tomorrow,
Kelly
