Daily Dose of Monkeys
Daily Dose of Beauty: Adding a bit of light to the darkness as we get through the pandemic together.
This series features travel photos and stories from my archives, shared with you as we shelter in place.

Because who doesn’t like monkeys?
Today we’re switching locations, riding the magic carpet all the way to Sri Lanka. My trip here in 2013 was one of my favorites of all time. The culture, the wildlife, the gorgeous green tea country, the spectacular beaches and the effusively friendly people overwhelmed me with an unexpected love for this tiny island nation. This week I’ll be sharing a photo or two of Sri Lanka each day.
These toque macaques, endemic to Sri Lanka, are quite striking in their appearance. I can’t help but think the solo female looks a little bit like some of us these days – braless with a quarantine haircut. And their unusual pointed ears look so Star Trek. As we debate the future of travel, don’t you wish we could just fast-forward and say to our next destination … Beam me up, Scotty?
As the world starts to re-open for business, my workload is increasing and I have diminishing free time to blog as the days go by. I’m not complaining – I’m extremely grateful to still have a job, at least for now. This week I’ll be transitioning from a daily dose of beauty to a photo of the day – a shorter daily format.
I’ll see you tomorrow with more of Sri Lanka. THANK YOU to all of you who have stopped by, commented and made contact during this time of isolation. Our collective presence in cyberspace is incredibly connective and supportive … an abundant source of daily joy for me. I’m so grateful to be a part of such a thoughtful community of writers and readers.
Until tomorrow,
Kelly
A daily joy for me too. I think it will be “Beam me up Kelly” from now on. 💕

Well, I have to say I love the idea of a magic carpet (or beaming up) and can’t stop referring to it because if I had to choose a superpower, that might be it!!

Thank you, Kevin. I love knowing I’ve brought happiness to at least a few people during a really hard time, including you. Means the world to me. 🙂

I think one of those monkeys gave herself a bang trim similar to a few I’ve given myself during our quarantine days! This series has been a wonderful escape, and I’ve read them all even when I haven’t had time for a comment. And the time for a comment may have dried up for me starting yesterday, when my son brought a new baby home and I hightailed it to Colorado to help out! I’ll keep admiring your photos during my breaks!

Woohoo! Congratulations, Lex!!! What great news! And how fun to squeeze in a road trip to get there! (Unless you flew?) Hope you’re enjoying every minute with the new baby. I, too, have a quarantine haircut just like the monkey. Lopped off six inches. Anyway, great to hear from you! Have a blast in Colorado! Wish we were there too. xo

These photos are terrific! Love the color — and the fact that the monkeys were in place long enough for you to capture such great shots!

Thanks, Rusha. They were very curious and not afraid at all. Easy to photograph!

That top photo is award winning, Kelly. Although I have to say that wild yellow hair on top of its head reminds me of someone. 🙂 –Curt

Ha! Thanks, Curt. I take no credit — I just happened to be in the right place at the right time! But was happy to get the monkey trio in a great embrace, even with the wild hair.

Take credit, Kelly! 🙂 Yes, being in the right place at the right time is important in photography, but ‘seeing’ the photograph and knowing how to take it are even more important. Often, it’s a matter of seconds before the opportunity disappears. –Curt

That’s a valid point. I appreciate that, Curt. Thanks for giving me credit! 🙂

Am I surprised it’s the female (second picture) that has taken care to do her hair? As for me, I was about due for a haircut before everything shut down two months ago…

Isn’t she gorgeous? 🙂 LOL. Me too! I just got a quarantine haircut myself, from my husband. Could be worse! It’ll grow back. And who am I trying to impress anyway? Haven’t seen anyone but neighbors in weeks! Enjoy the weekend!

Hey, K. Glad to hear you’re back to work. Just wanted to mention a series on Acorn TV called The Good Karma Hospital; filmed in Sri Lanka. Gorgeous scenery.
Take care.
