I don’t know about you but I wish I could fly away today.
After yesterday’s introduction to Yala National Park in Sri Lanka, let’s take a look at the diverse bird life and contemplate why the junglefowl crossed the road.
Until tomorrow,
Kelly
Loved them all but especially the hornbills 😊

Thanks, Alison! I thought you might like this post, being the Bird Whisperer with your own photography!! I love the hornbills too — such unique profiles.

There are blue whales around Sri Lanka as well. It was one of the highlights we really wanted to see but didn’t have enough time to arrange a tour unfortunately. Not sure what time of year is best but hope to see them if/when we go back.

Oh, I feel your pain. If there’s possibly a silver lining it’s maybe that places will overall be less touristed when travel resumes, and more enjoyable as a result. Stay healthy so you can get back out there again!! Happy weekend. 🙂

I don’t think I have ever seen a bird with a stranger bill than the hornbill, Kelly. And the kingfisher, so different fro ours. Do they make a similar call. –Curt

Yes! Aren’t the hornbills super cool? Good question — I don’t know the answer about the kingfisher. There a few different types of them in Sri Lanka. All I know is the colors were beautiful!

Unlike the iridescent blue (and white) of those found along streams in California. Also good looking. I asked about the call, Kelly, because it is so darn unique. –Curt

I have to look into that call so I can recognize it. Thanks Curt!
