Photos of the Day: Siladen
Photos of the Day: Adding a bit of light to the darkness as we get through the pandemic together.
This series features travel photos from my archives, shared with you as we shelter in place.

Yesterday’s mystery is solved! We’ve arrived on Siladen, a tiny island in the Celebes Sea off the coast of Sulawesi, Indonesia.
Have a look at your thatched hut accommodations, unpack your overnight bag and head to the beach. We’ll be here for the next two days. Nasi goreng anyone?
Until tomorrow,
Kelly
Oh, I was way off base – glad I did not guess! (I was thinking Nicaragua, with that volcano out in the middle of the water!)

Oooh, I like that guess! Doing all these posts, I’m starting to feel like there are soooo many other places I still need to get to, including Nicaragua. But who knows when at this point… How’s the new baby? Hope you had a great weekend!

I feel the same about the travel wish list piling up with no departures in sight! I did get in that round-trip drive to CO, though, and the human baby is awesome. So cute and so sweet. Everyone is good. I came home to another baby – a new puppy we picked up at the end of my 16-hour drive. I really know how to time things, eh? Hope your weekend was good, too!

A NEW PUPPY!? Do tell!? What kind and what’s the name? Funny… halfway through your comment I was wondering why you were calling it the “human baby” LOL. Now I understand! Thanks for the laugh. 🙂

He’s a little ruby-colored Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Tashi (“happiness” or “good fortune” in Tibetan). We had an epic fail with a rescue pup last fall and decided to return to a breed we had owned and loved before. He’s been great! He’ll be my new travel buddy soon!

It looks like a great place. How did you find it?

More in today’s post on that, but our friends who dive heard it was a great location so we got certified and joined them. Was terrified at first of the certification process but I did okay! Made it through alive, ha ha.

Palm thatched huts are always fun accommodations, Kelly. Looks like tropical paradise to me. –Curt

Right? Wish we could have thatched roofs in Tahoe by the lake. That would be dreamy. 🙂

How do you even discover these out of the way places (much less get there)? Indonesia looks interesting (but I’d want to do some scuba diving…)

Our friends put this place on the map for us because of the great diving. But I was just saying to Lexi in another comment that we never would have traveled all the way to Siladen from the US. It’s just too far away for even a week-long vacation. Living in Singapore at the time made it much more do-able. The flight was 3.5 hours into a tiny airport and on to the boat. Easy breezy and so fun!
