Golden Bagan
Photo of the Day: Adding a bit of light to the darkness as we get through the pandemic together.
This series features travel photos from my archives, shared with you as we shelter in place.
June 24th, 2020
As you travel the world, there are places that feel larger than life up close, with so much to comprehend and take in. And then, as you step away from those places for days and months and years, they become even more significant in memory as you look back in wonderment that you were ever there. Bagan is one of those places.
Hundreds of ancient temples reach above the treetops, creating a landscape of history and devotion. Spend your days climbing up and down temples ~ remarkably open and accessible for as far as you care to explore. In the searing spring heat, sunset finally brings relief and a moment to stop and take it all in from the warm brick terrace of a tall temple looking west to its neighbors.
I think we’ll hang out here for a few days in the solitude of this mysterious region.
More tomorrow,
Kelly

You’ve shared another place I’ve never heard of but would love to see . . . Bagan. What a nice perspective from where you were standing!

Thanks Rusha! Yes, Bagan is far off the beaten path but that’s where I most like to be!

Oh such a special place. I just finished redoing some of my pics of Bagan now I know more about post editing than I did then.
Happy to hang here for a few days 🙂

For a future re-post perhaps? Would love to see! It’s funny to go back through past travel photos. I’m realizing how much my preferences have changed in what I think is a good photo. Some photos that I never would have featured years ago are my favorites now.

It’s some of the ones on the blog post that I re-did. I didn’t re-do all of them, mainly only the exterior shots of the temples. Here: https://alisonanddon.com/2013/06/23/burma-myanmar-part-6-bagan/

One of the places I’m sad to have missed so far in my travels … hoping so much to be able to venture back out again in the future and add this beauty! Love this view of the road into Bagan.

Keep hope alive! We’ll get back to traveling eventually. At least we’re not 80 wishing we had seen the world. I’m so happy right now that I’ve done as much as I have. Put Bagan on your list and have faith that you WILL see it — with fewer people probably, too!
