Maolin’s Moths & Butterflies
August 19th, 2020
In addition to exploring the old trees of Alishan on our trip to Taiwan in 2013, we spent one night in Maolin looking for butterflies. From a cute little stone cottage, we set out by foot to explore the area and found some stunning winged creatures fluttering in the hills. Hope you enjoy the portraits and – warning! – guest appearances of other creepy crawlies out on the hunt.
More from Taiwan tomorrow,
Kelly
Post of the Day: Adding a bit of light to the darkness as we get through the pandemic together. This series features travel photos from my archives, shared with you while staying close to home.
Is there any particular reason for all the butterflies or did it just happen that there was a butterfly convention that day?

The blue butterfly caught my eye. I have never seen one like it.

Interesting! I wish I knew more about the names/species of the butterflies. All I know is… they’re pretty! 🙂

Love the winged creatures, but really love that line-up of hand-holding people at the top! You are so lucky to see so much!

Aren’t they cool? Maolin has an indigenous population which is celebrated in that larger-than-life stone mural. It was quite a sight. Yes, we feel very lucky to have seen much of the world. We’re already plotting how to get back out there again. It feeds my soul. I suspect you feel the same!

I definitely feel the same. And we’re aging. So I hope this virus ends before it’s too late for us to travel!!! We’re headed to the Eastern Shore since the U. S. is now our travel country!!
