Departing for Wide Open Spaces

Get your tent and fill your backpack. Tomorrow we’re leaving on a road trip through the desert southwest!
I’ve had the next two weeks marked on my calendar for an entire year. Vacation! Birthday! I had hoped to be somewhere exotic like Egypt or enjoying tea in the Sahara, but that’s just not possible. Instead, I and Mr. Producer are heading into the wide open spaces of Death Valley, the Grand Canyon, Utah and Wyoming for a road trip camping adventure! The Jeep is packed, racked and stacked for fun. We have a few stops planned along the way but we’re leaving much of our route open for discovery. Depending on Wi-Fi, I’ll be posting a few photos every day, here on the blog and on Instagram.

Absolutely! I wouldn’t call it exotic but Grand Canyon is stuff of dreams for many- me included 🙂 🙂 Have a wonderful trip!

Yay!! Can’t wait to show it to you, Deb! I’ve never hiked down into it (only a tributary canyon) so it’s all new for both of us! Friday will be a looooong day, but surely one of the best of the whole trip. We were unable to get a permit for longer than one day, so a day hike it is!! More soon! Thanks for coming along.

Hello from Death Valley! Thanks for joining me on my birthday trip! Unfortunately we’ll probably miss Antelope Canyon. All the sites in native land are currently closed, including Monument Valley. But we’ll drive through the area and see what we can still see!! So nice to be out on the road.

I’ve missed you for the last week or two as I left Colorado, headed east for family business, and then completed my 4500-mile triangle to get back to Texas. So bummed that I’ve left the west/southwest areas right as you plan to arrive! 😦 Have a fantastic road trip and birthday!

What a fantastic trip you have planned! I have fond memories of visiting the Grand Canyon during a university trip many moons ago. Sadly we didn’t get to explore inside the canyon, but all the more reason to return one day! Have a fab time and a very happy birthday ☺️✨
