Plain & Simple
November 27th, 2020
After our virtual vacation in Bali and postcards from Lake Tahoe, we’re getting back to the remaining stories from my recent road trip through Arizona and Utah.
Tomorrow we’ll take a quick look around Zion National Park. Surprisingly, these photos were captured within a couple miles of the park entrance. The pastoral landscape gives no hint of the terrain just up ahead. It all changes dramatically as you’ll see tomorrow when we round the corner.
Until then,
Kelly
Photos of the Day: Adding a bit of light to the darkness as we get through the pandemic together. This series features travel photos from my archives, shared with you while staying close to home.
OK, I’ll be patient until tomorrow to find out more. These vast, sun-dried meadows are so reminiscent of the Far West.

Looking forward to re-visiting with you. We have great memories of our visit many years ago.

Great that you’ve been! Our visit was so brief, we should go back someday to explore more.

Great perspective on the surroundings of iconic Zion. Another place that gives no hint of its awesome grandeur-to-come is the flat, flat, featureless land approaching Palo Duro Canyon in west Texas. It’s the second largest canyon in the U.S. and it just comes out of nowhere!

Thank you! Palo Duro Canyon sounds intriguing… Second largest? Never even heard of it! Thanks for putting it on the radar.

Yep, hard to believe but true. I’d never heard of it either until our son told us about it during his cross-country RV trip a few years ago. When I saw it was only 40 minutes off our route to Denver, we decided to stop this summer. Nothing much else nearby, but we got in a good scenic drive and some short hikes with the dog.

There’s something restful about fields of grass — we loved our trip to South Dakota’s Badlands for this very reason. Thanks for pretty photos and a sense of calm.

The tranquility of the plains indeed give no hint about the dramatic landscape that lies ahead!
Would be s good idea to stop by here and have some grub to fuel the adventure ahead. But are there shops here? The landscape looks so lonely…

No, no shops. There’s one hotel but aside from that, not much going on in the heart of Zion. Gotta be prepared!
