Supply & Demand

Tannery :: Fez, Morocco

Tannery :: Fez, Morocco

January 3rd, 2021

So far on our virtual trek through Morocco, we’ve visited Tangier, Asilah and Fez.

Tomorrow we’ll visit two tanneries in Fez. The tanneries are something we should all stop and think about. And in fact, many of you did — with more than 20 comments on my original post shared in 2018.

The tanneries present the dilemma of supply and demand, and what part you play in that equation — not only for leather in Morocco, but for any product from anywhere in the world.

More tomorrow,
Kelly

  • Yes we visited the tanneries and much like you we had very mixed feelings. Morocco is such a fascinating country and I look forward to more of your posts as well as returning to discover the places we have not been to yet.

    Just a note re our blog http://www.greenglobaltrek.org. We have had a malfunction (sigh) and the latest post did not get mailed out to our readers, so if you would like to see/read it.. all about our art gallery on wheels, please do pull it up and leave your feedback if you get a chance. Happy New Year to you and yours.

    • Hey Peta! Thanks for letting me know about your post. I will hop over and take a look. Hope your malfunction is worked out. I’ve been finding it needlessly challenging to keep working with the “classic editor” rather than the pedantic new block editor. Anyway — yes, the tanneries are thought provoking, gut wrenching… so many things. Not sure if you’ve been to Chefchaouen, but that will be my next post or two after the tanneries. Don’t miss it when you return to Morocco. As an artist, you’ll love it.

  • Don’t make me go back to the tanneries! 🙂 Your post before was so good, and I recall thinking hard about it and commenting on it. Such a tough topic. I’ll maybe peek again …!

    • Ha! You can have a hall pass, Lex. Skip the tanneries if you need to. 🙂 It gets harder for me to think about every time I come back to the post. That’s why I thought I should forewarn people with this post. It’s a tough topic and unfortunately another example of hard living around the world.
