Today, a handful of photos from the Erawan Shrine and surrounding area in downtown Bangkok. In the middle of the hustle and bustle, moments of beauty and devotion remain.
Tomorrow we’ll visit Jim Thompson’s house before we fly the magic carpet back to Singapore for the weekend.
Until then,

Post of the Day: Adding a bit of light to the darkness as we get through the pandemic together. This series features travel photos from my archives, shared with you while staying close to home.
The large vase with the cups seems to be decorated with western motifs. Perhaps an example of the stylistic synchretism of the city.

Good eye. I like your theory. The shrine was built with the original Erawan Hotel, which looked rather western. Here’s an interesting link with vintage photos: http://2bangkok.com/2bangkok-buildings-erawan-erawan.html

I stayed near the Erawan shrine and walked past it dozens of times. I found it such a strange little oasis amid the busyness surrounding it! Can’t wait to see your photos of the Jim Thompson house; that was also such a peaceful and fascinating refuge from the bustle of the city.

The Erawan Shrine is definitely odd in its placement. The city literally grew around it. Check out this link I found that shows the original shrine and hotel: http://2bangkok.com/2bangkok-buildings-erawan-erawan.html

Wow – that’s so cool! Next time I’m there, I will look at it with new (old) eyes!

It’s that golden yellow that I remember so well. In Nepal, it was the color of marigolds. In Bangkok, it’s that and more. But I love the brilliance of it.
