Happy Mardi Gras!
February 16th, 2021
It’s Fat Tuesday, traditionally a day of feasting, floats, costumes, music, dancing and celebration. New Orleans is the heart of Mardi Gras celebrations in the U.S. I’ve never attended, but I have been to Carnaval in Cuba where it’s celebrated in much the same way, as you can see above.
Feast, toast and cheers to the approach of spring, warmer weather and a new season of optimism to carry us out of the past year of darker days.
More tomorrow,
Kelly
Post of the Day: Adding a bit of light to the darkness as we get through the pandemic together. This series features travel photos from my archives, shared with you while staying close to home.
A little sad because it’s a huge event here too. Online this year. I shall have to boogy alone 🙂 🙂

I didn’t know it was a huge event there. That’s cool! Love that you’re still boogying, even if alone. I’ll join you here on my side of the pond. Dance on! 🙂

For me Mardi-gras is mainly crepes, with all kinds of jams, chocolate or chestnut cream, and simply with sugar to better appreciate the dough.

You had me at crepes. 🙂 All of those options sound delish! Especially the simple sugar! But wow… chestnut cream. Are you a fan of the Mont-Blanc?

You have to use granulated sugar to feel it gently cracking under your teeth. Mont Blanc, I don’t think I’ve tried it, but chestnut spread is difficult to find outside of France.

I ended up at the Mardi Gras in New Orleans once and I didn’t even know it was going on… until I got there. It’s amazing I got a hotel room. I’d come down from Alaska to attend a conference in Mobile and thought I would stop off and explore New Orleans. Imagine my surprise. I found the color, the costumes, the floats and the hijinks fascinating but being crowded together with several thousand mainly drunk people a little disconcerting. 🙂 Being a bit claustrophobic didn’t help. Cuba, or Rio, would add a fun twist! –Curt

Wow, what a travel surprise to arrive in the middle of Mardi Gras! From Alaska no less, LOL! 🙂 Cuba was fun but I agree, Rio would really top it up and take it to the next level. Maybe I’ll move that up a few notches on the bucket list while I can still party with the best of ’em. (yeah, right) 🙂

Laughing. I’ve never been a marathoner when it comes to partying. 🙂 But I do think that the Rio trip would be awesome. –Curt
