Tavira Town Views
March 5th, 2021
Today we’re in the southeast corner of Portugal, near the border with Spain. Tavira sits on both sides of the Gilão River with the Ponte Romana providing the connection between them. Walk either side of the river and you’ll find a mélange of two-story buildings in antique white and pastel colors, their parapets and hipped roofs adding a top layer of decoration. Traditional Portuguese tiles add a bit of texture here and there, and each doorway shows beauty and age in equal measure.
We were here on a quiet, cool spring day with a gray sky. This town of the Algarve has a unique beauty and wonderful location near long, wide beaches along the Gulf of Cadiz.
Enjoy the Tavira town views in the gallery and click on any image to view it larger. Tomorrow I’ll be writing and sharing a new post related to Portugal’s location on the Atlantic and a particular trade it sustains. Any guesses?
More tomorrow,
Kelly
Post of the Day: Adding a bit of light to the darkness as we get through the pandemic together. This series features travel photos from my archives, shared with you while staying close to home.
How beautifully the touch of age and colour is blended in these buildings.
That park with all that green and the sharply contrasted red benches is very eye catching.
Portugal had many trades linked to the Atlantic, one of them linked to Africa was not good. Not guessing, will wait to read tomorrow.

I too thought the red bench and green foliage was so pretty! The whole town of Tavira is just charming. As for the trade, it’s sardines! 🙂

I can’t decide which photo I like best, the street scene with the green and yellow buildings, near the top, or that green door! I think I need to travel to Portugal again! Cady

There is a great harmony between all these houses fllowing the same simple and elegant style. No guess for the mysterious trade, I am curious to know the answer.

Harmony is the perfect word. Tavira is very pleasing to the eye. Just posted the answer to the question, btw. Hope you’re enjoying the weekend.

The aging of buildings is interesting to me, and you’ve got several shots that show off how pretty but how old this town is. Good post!
