Cascais
March 12th, 2021
Today we’re completing our loop through southern Portugal, ending with a few photos from a seaside town called Cascais. South of Sintra and west of Lisbon… wouldn’t this make for a nice weekend getaway?
Tomorrow I’ll share a post about Portugal’s history of tile making, and Sunday I’ll have a new post about accommodations if you’re planning on visiting this country.
Enjoy the weekend!

Every time I see those wavy tiles, it brings back such happy memories. Love Portugal in general and Cascais in particular!

It’s a great place for a wander out of season. Some nice places to sit and people watch and great coastal walks.

The tiled walkway is classy, Kelly. When I googled Cascais and looked at photos, it also looked to me like the rocky coastline would be well-worth exploring. –Curt

I am interested in this tile history, the pattern represented here is also the one reproduced on the Copacabana promenade in Rio.

Interesting observation, Lookoom! I have no idea about its origin or when the pattern first appeared Cascais. Surely one location inspired the other?

Many seem to like and/or recognize the wavy tile pattern. For me, it brings back Valencia, Spain … but with or without a similar memory, that promenade is so cheerful and appealing!

Valencia… haven’t been, would love to go, in search of wavy tiles, Manchego cheese and a nice Cava. Shall we? 🙂
