Nosy in the Yukon
March 15th, 2021
Today we’ve landed in a new location where it’s still winter! We’re in Whitehorse, in Canada’s Yukon Territory, greeted by the most amazing snout of a female moose at the Yukon Wildlife Preserve.
You can go by foot to see the moose in the preserve. They warn you to stand a couple feet back from the fence so you don’t get charged (by the moose, not the fence). We followed the rules but this curious cow walked right up to us to say hello so I zoomed in and filled the frame. Needless to say, we survived this close encounter of the moose kind.
A few more fun photos from the preserve follow below including a cool cat, the foxiest fox and a perfect photo for a Monday.
Tomorrow I’ll repost my story from Whitehorse, experienced exactly three years ago.
See you then!
Kelly

The moose are wonderfully goofy, and the fox and that movie star cat are beautiful!

Quite a menagerie, huh?! It was a fun afternoon we hadn’t planned on. We went to the hot springs and drove past the preserve.

Great shots. Wonderful way to start my morning. Thanks.
Alaska is still on our future travel list. Just can’t seem to find the time to make it up there.

Thank you, Steve! It’s a vast wilderness up that way. It felt like we were a world away, in a good way.

Laughing at that last photo, Kelly. It’s the kind of picture Peggy is always accusing me of taking. The Lynx is beautiful. And the nose of the moose, to die for. Great shot. –Curt

I really like the picture of the fox. It’s good to visit this centre to see the animals up close, they are so elusive in the wild.

Thank you! The fox was stunning — the fur color so saturated. Agreed — would have taken weeks to see all these animals in the wild.

Beautiful photos of these elusive species Kelly. LOL, the last photo made my Wednesday happy instead.
The Moose, do they often charge? They are so huge and powerful.
The fox is of a beautiful orange colour, and this is the first photo I saw of a Lynx. From the curved ear I kind of recognised.

Yes, moose are known for charging and seriously injuring people. They should never be approached. But we stood back and her curiosity brought her to us, on her terms. A pretty cool moment. Ha! Great that you enjoyed the last photo! Was so funny I couldn’t resist. 🙂 Hope you’re doing well, Deb. And thank you!

What a cool collection of photos — and you’ve made me think about other noses I’ve seen lately that would be fun to post.

Thanks! I wasn’t even planning on making it about noses but then I looked at all the photos I had included and realized there was an obvious theme, LOL!
