Field Trip
March 29th, 2021
After yesterday’s rice paper on the Delta, here’s a view of the rice harvest in the mountains. We’re back on the magic carpet, heading north to Sa Pa. Tomorrow we’ll take a walk around.
See you then,

It seems that the work is still very manual in this place. The layout of the terraces forms a beautiful pattern.

Yes, the linear pattern is what attracted me to the photo, in addition to capturing the harvest by hand.

I always find terracing artistic, Kelly, even though that isn’t what the farmers have in mind. –Curt

I can’t imagine the labor involved in so perfectly terracing entire hillsides. I wonder how long the process takes, how long ago these ones were completed. Such a beautiful mystery!

It’s ancient, that’s for sure, Kelly. I think the first time I saw terraces was in Bali. Incredibly hard work, no doubt. But it is possible that they had generations to do it.
