What’s your favorite seat on an airplane? Mine is anything with a window. Yes, I’m that person who, when the cabin is dark and everyone else is watching movies, I’ve got my jacket over my head and the window shade cracked open just a tiny bit watching the world go by below.
Day before yesterday we touched down in Philippines. Since we’re back in the air now, where do you want to land next? Let’s vote! Here are your choices:

I’m a window seat gal all the way! The aisle sitters all talk about not having to climb over people to get to the bathrooms, but I’ll take a bird’s eye view of the world over unlimited access to those any day! I’ll hold my bladder, step over a sleeping person or an armrest, or even wake those aisle lovers up in the worst case scenario! Love your photos and wish I could share some of mine, too – maybe when we meet at the cabin in Bella Coola some day! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Amen, sister! I feel the same way! An aisle seat holds no appeal for me. YESSSS, can we meet at the cabin in Bella Coola someday?! That would be SO fabulous. Let’s keep that thought in circulation as something to look forward to in order to get through this current stationary life. ♥

The window seat is also my favorite — I’m one of those people who prefer looking out of the window than talking to the person seated next to me, especially when he/she starts with a topic that I have no interest of discussing at all.

And this is why my husband and I fight over who gets to sit in the window seat!!!! Your photos are great. Not even any of the dirt I usually get as an addition to the picture I’m trying to capture!

Ha, we fight over it too! I usually lost out since I’m the only one with the zen-like patience required of the middle seat. And I did retouch a few smudges on the windows. They’re never clean, are they?!

We may look at airplanes with more scrutiny in the future. I used to laugh at people who wiped down the little pull-down shelf with sani-wipes. No more!

You know, Kelly, I remember my first flight ever, and sitting at the window seat, absolutely amazed at what I was seeing. And that has never changed. That first flight, BTW, was out of San Francisco, in 1965 as I was on my way to Africa and the Peace Corps. As we flew over Pyramid Peak, the Crystal Range, and Lake Tahoe, I said goodby to California and the life I had known. I’ve backpacked through the Gates of the Arctic, quite special, and now threatened. –Curt

OMG, Curt. I feel like you just packed an entire life story into that comment. Wow, what a huge flight to take as your very first ever! I would love to hear more about that experience and/or your time in Gates of the Arctic. I had no idea that I was over that particular part of Alaska. My phone somehow noted it as the photo location, even while in airplane mode. In any case, I’m curious as it looked so beautiful (and cold) from above.

SO interesting, because I always try to nab the aisle seat. Mostly because I always drink a ton of water on flights (which are very dehydrating) and so therefore need to pee a lot. I hate bothering people and I also like the ease of access. But seeing these incredible photos and views I think I might change my strategy for next time and see how it goes. Also I have tended to feel a bit claustrophobic being boxed in by two people when at the window seat. I need to change my approach and appreciate the views more. Thank you!
You are landing in the Phillipines? I thought the borders there were closed to all incoming flights and/or foreigners. Ben was there recently on business and shortly after we were of the understanding that the airports were closed….?

Hi Peta!! My Daily Dose series is a bit imaginative — we’re traveling in theory, featuring places I’ve been to and photographed before but in a shorter daily format. It’s my tiny effort to add beauty to a dark time in the world while so many of us are missing our usual globetrotting as we stay home and fight the pandemic.
I see your point about the aisle seat being attractive for other reasons. I think it also depends on the time of your flight (is it dark? in which case the window seat has no added appeal) and where you are going. Flying over an amazing city or mountain range? Then yes, try the window! Otherwise, maybe the aisle is the best way to go. Either way, it’s still traveling! The best thing in the world. 🙂

Hi! Thank you! Would love to see your photo of Kinabalu. J and I were just talking about that mountain today, funny enough. We tried to climb it in October of 2014 (while living in Singapore) but encountered torrential downpours that turned the mountain into a river. So freaky! Needless to say, we didn’t summit. It’s a moody mountain!

Too bad you didn’t get to climb it. We were going to do a day hike on the lower slopes but had to get back to Canada as Malaysia was shutting down. Best laid plans eh?

I too enjoy the window seat – but so does my wife. On the other hand it seems like most of the flights we’ve taken lately have been red-eyes, so not much view to speak of anyway.
Now you’ve got me thinking of digging into some old boxes to see if I can find pictures from back when I was flying little Cessna 150’s…

Oh, the Cessna shots would be super cool to see! Great idea! And yes, not much to see from the window seat at night but then the other benefit comes into play — headrest against the window. Better than the aisle for sure!
