Bridge of Bhutan
Photos of the Day: Adding a bit of light to the darkness as we get through the pandemic together.

In Bhutan, following your curiosity always pays off.
While in Thimphu visiting the daily produce market, I noticed a bridge on the other side if the street. I climbed the stone steps to the entry.
I looked up and discovered the mandala on the ceiling, with swirls and scrolls over an ocean blue background. Through the next doorway, a wooden bridge draped in prayer flags led across the Thimphu Chu to the riverside market.
Peering through the prayer flags, the Dordenma Buddha from yesterday’s journey sat in profile on the hillside far in the distance.
Transfixed by all the flags, the history and the people coming and going in both directions, I stood and waited and watched while beauty drifted by.
Tomorrow we’ll stop at the Thimphu Centenary Market.
Until then,
Kelly

Love the colors in your excellent photos. And one color in particular: a red/orange. It figures prominently in so many places.

YES, Rusha! Funny you mention that color. I’ve noticed the same thing and have an idea percolating in my head relating to it. Possibly more to be revealed at a later time. Thanks for your keen observation. 🙂

Following your curiosity is always worthwhile, Kelly. 🙂 Andrew mentioned that the bridge would make an interesting painting. I’m also thinking puzzle— challenging puzzle. –Curt

Oh I am in awe! Just the kind of place I like to discover. I love your photos, and this is by far the most wonderful thing you’ve shared so far of Bhutan. I would go just for this bridge!

Love this. ♥ Thank you, Alison! There are lots of discoveries like this in Bhutan. The bridge has no name, is not distinguished on any map, other than “covered footbridge.” Was just pure luck that I walked over to see it. Hopefully you’ll see it in person someday! 🙂

Now this is a bridge like no other I’ve ever seen — love those colorful flags flapping in the breeze. So interesting. And other-worldly.

It was dripping with color. I could hardly believe my eyes and the fact that it wasn’t even on the map! It was just sitting there — something they see every day but to me was beyond picturesque.
