Bryce Canyon Pictorial
December 4th, 2020
After yesterday’s geology lesson about hoodoos, today we’re finally entering Bryce Canyon! My pictorial takes us from Sunrise Point to Queen’s Garden Trail, up the west side of Peekaboo Loop to the trail leading up to Bryce Point (last photo) with return to Sunrise Point on the Rim Trail overlooking the canyon (about 10 miles/16 km in all).
On this bright day when we were there in October, I had never seen a sky so deep blue. The soft, wide trail led past the most magnificent vistas — something to see at every turn. In all my hiking around the world, this day ranks among the top five.
New! If you’re viewing on a laptop or desktop computer with a larger screen, hop over to my website at compassandcamera.com where you’ll find the same photos but much larger for the full Bryce Canyon effect. The page can also be viewed on a tablet or mobile device.
I’ll step to the side of the trail so you can find your way among the hoodoos and pine trees, accompanied by your thoughts, in fresh air and sunshine.
Enjoy the walk!
More tomorrow,
Kelly
P.S. Leave a comment if you experience any issues viewing the larger photos on my website .
Post of the Day: Adding a bit of light to the darkness as we get through the pandemic together. This series features travel photos from my archives, shared with you while staying close to home.
It’s like walking in wonderland, isn’t it? I did pop over to your main site but couldn’t leave a comment there. Have a lovely weekend! 🙂 🙂

Thanks for checking out the large format photos, Jo! I’m learning more code and practicing with my recent photos. 🙂

I was able to see the photos in the wide format, there are even some extra photos as a bonus. The light is very sharp, which makes it possible to see the shapes and appreciate the contrasts. It’s quite a fascinating show with a trail layout that allows to enjoy it in good conditions.

Thanks Lookoom! I’m hoping to do more of the large-format posts in the future, as I learn more code. It’s quite fun and so cool to see the details, as you mention. Thanks for visiting!

Wow!! Stunning Kelly. I looked at these on my Mac Cinema screen – sensational. Brought it all back as our day, like yours, was blue, blue sky and glorious sunshine too. Question – How were you able to post it so that the photos could be viewed in full screen? Have a great weekend.

Hi again! (Sorry — I’m reading and answering comments tonight in the wrong order.) I know a bit of web design and normally use Adobe Dreamweaver with the user-friendly design interface that sort of limits what you can do. Recently, I started doing some tutorials on back-end web design using the developer interface (a bit more advanced) with coding and style sheets. It’s fun and pretty simple to construct a wide-format page of images with responsive design that reacts to mobile, tablet or desktop. I hope to learn more and keep experimenting with my posts. Thanks for checking it out!!

Hi Kelly, thanks for reminding me just how extraordinary Bryce is! Love your photos! I must plan to take my significant other there! He is from the East Coast and has just started exploring this side of the country with the me in recent years. Have a great weekend! 🌞

To me, a day with blue skies like in your photos is what I always hope for whenever I travel. What a glorious day to be in such a picturesque place like Bryce Canyon, Kelly! Those natural ‘windows’ remind me of the ones I saw in Jordan’s Wadi Rum.

So cool to find comparisons and commonalities of two places, Bryce and Wadi Rum, so far apart from each other. Earth is an amazing place. And yes, the blue sky was like a sapphire. An incredible fall day from start to finish.

I’ll echo many of the other comments: fantastic shots, wonderfully reminiscent of our own trip and hikes there, and nice to see the photos even larger in the link. The humans (J and others) add a nice sense of scale, too.

Thanks Lex! Yes, J is becoming the blog trail guide, LOL! Always ahead of me! Thanks for checking out the bigger shots. I’ve been learning more code since there’s nowhere to go these days! 🙂

That colour of sky is surreal! And the colours of the canyon contrast it so well, and yet complement it. The hoodoos are amazing, surprising to think how a river and erosion could cut out art like that. Tonight I watch this on phone, tomorrow I will view this on a big screen 🙂

THE BLUE OF THE SKY! It is bluer than blue – it is otherworldly – it is bluer than the blue on the Sistine Chapel, and that blue was made from the finest Lapis purchased in Florence. Truth is stranger and more glorious than fiction. Great job on these photos Kelly!

Ahhh, Bryce Canyon – one of our favorite places! Someday we hope to do a big road trip all over the US and return to our favorite NPs, and perhaps see some new ones. Your photos are stunning and make us really want to hit the road 🙂

Thank you! We were stunned by the beauty of Bryce Canyon and enjoyed every minute and every mile we walked. It’s definitely one of the best NPs! Yes, doesn’t a road trip sound divine? Anything to get out of the house and out of this “Groundhog Day” experience, LOL!

I see we were on a similar wavelength this week Kelly! The hoodoos look like something from another planet, didn’t you think?! Such a fond memory – thanks for the stroll. BTW, I don’t remember the path in your last image! Where in the park was it?
LikeLike
Thanks Tina! That path is at Bryce Point near the Peek-a-Boo Trailhead and south end of the Rim Trail — essentially the south end of the main canyon. Bryce Point Road leads to the parking lot near the viewpoint shown in the distance. Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
