Castle in the Sky
February 25th, 2021
It’s been a very long day for me so today’s post is just a tease.
After yesterday’s walk around Lisbon, we’re heading west towards Sintra where we’ll explore this colorful castle in the sky tomorrow.
Until then,

In my memory, Sintra is a game of colours and shapes, or how what is meant to frighten, these big fortifications and powerful towers, become a subject of amusement, a kind of pastiche of a fortified castle.

That’s an interesting thought — making something that’s historically defensive and fortified more friendly and approachable through color and design. I wish I could find more information on whether Pena Palace has always been colorful or at what point it became so. I do wonder what it would look like in a natural, neutral palette.

That castle looks so brightly coloured and beautiful, like a Lego block castle. I am reading this on “tomorrow” 🙂 so will wait to explore the castle in details.

True! It does look a little bit Lego, a little bit Disney!
