Toque Monkeys, Sri Lanka

Daily Dose of Beauty: Adding a bit of light to the darkness as we get through the pandemic together.
This series features travel photos and stories from my archives, shared with you as we shelter in place.

Because who doesn’t like monkeys?

Today we’re switching locations, riding the magic carpet all the way to Sri Lanka. My trip here in 2013 was one of my favorites of all time. The culture, the wildlife, the gorgeous green tea country, the spectacular beaches and the effusively friendly people overwhelmed me with an unexpected love for this tiny island nation. This week I’ll be sharing a photo or two of Sri Lanka each day.

These toque macaques, endemic to Sri Lanka, are quite striking in their appearance. I can’t help but think the solo female looks a little bit like some of us these days – braless with a quarantine haircut. And their unusual pointed ears look so Star Trek. As we debate the future of travel, don’t you wish we could just fast-forward and say to our next destination … Beam me up, Scotty?

As the world starts to re-open for business, my workload is increasing and I have diminishing free time to blog as the days go by. I’m not complaining – I’m extremely grateful to still have a job, at least for now. This week I’ll be transitioning from a daily dose of beauty to a photo of the day – a shorter daily format.

I’ll see you tomorrow with more of Sri Lanka. THANK YOU to all of you who have stopped by, commented and made contact during this time of isolation. Our collective presence in cyberspace is incredibly connective and supportive … an abundant source of daily joy for me. I’m so grateful to be a part of such a thoughtful community of writers and readers.

Until tomorrow,
Kelly
